I think you're confusing public with free. It's public in the sense of being out in the open for people to see and buy if they want to. If it were private, it wouldn't be listed as purchasable.
I added stripe, if that is what you meant by card payment, though you don’t need a paypal account to pay for the game, it is just a payment processor and it takes credit/debit cards
I just got an email about this and ya know, I might just give it a look. Still not better than the email I got which excused me from jury duty, but I've yet to play so in retrospect this may surpass it.

No, I understand, simply everyone here on itch.io calls the free version public (different from the patreon, subrscibestar etc), that's what I meant.
